Hello,
Is there a list of men who joined Lafayette in his fighting of the American revolution?
I am looking for a Louis Giguet or some variation of that name.
Spellings I have seen include Gegett Giggett Grigriet Gigiatt Geggatt.
These were all on revolutionary era documents.
Thank you,
Tim Geggatt

Hi Tim,
Here is a list of French units that participated in the revolution. Not sure if it is complete.

Military archives for that period are kept at the Archives Nationales or the Service historique de la Défense (SHD). Note that record keeping changed significantly after the French revolution, and that less information will be available for the period you search.

I am not very familiar with military research and recommend asking in the dedicated military forum in the French section of the forums where more knowledgeable people can assist you. Use Google Translate or DeepL to translate your question.

Most registers are now available at https://www.memoiredeshommes.sga.defense.gouv.fr/fr/

I don't think they are indexed, so you'd have to find the branch and divisions first.
